National Action Plan for the Conservation of Chimpanzees in Guinea

2020-2030

In 2017, a meeting was held in Conakry, Guinea, to develop an action plan for chimpanzees in Guinea, taking into account present day threats and looking for solutions for how we can address these threats.

The objectives of this plan are to provide a common vision for all chimpanzee conservation stakeholders in Guinea, to build a strategic framework for donors wishing to fund actions in favor of the species and to mobilize all people and structures acting in this sense in Guinea.

The Plan is also intended to inform planning efforts in other sectors that may affect chimpanzees in Guinea.

The above action plan updates an older IUCN Action Plan for Western Chimpanzees that was created as a result of a meeting in September 2002, in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire, where 72 participants from over 19 countries, including Senegal, Mali, the Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria, got together for the first time to discuss what it is going to take to prevent Western Chimpanzees from going extinct.
